Analog Matrix Switch - AMS001

[ Data Switches ]

The AMS001-1 Analog Matrix Switch (AMS) is a 64 input to 64 output cross-point switch on a VME-6U card. A unique feature of this card is that it is stackable allowing the input matrix to increase in size. With stacking full size VME daughter cards the AMS001-2 the input matrix can be expanded to 128, 192, and 256 input signals.

Used as a signal card the control operations allow operator assignments for any one (1) of 64 analog inputs to be switch directed to any one (1) of 64 analog outputs. These assignments are made through the VME bus by a system controller. Once the switch assignments are made no other intervention by the system CPU controller is required.

The analog inputs can accept signals from D.C. to the -3dB roll off at 6MHz with voltages up to ±10V. With input signals of 400kHz at 10Vp-p centered around ground (+5Vp to 0V to -5Vp), the matrix switch exhibits ±0.1dB loss from input to output. Input and output connections are made to the AMS001-1 through four SCSI-2 type D-Subminiature 50 pin receptacles. Two connectors provide for the 64 analog inputs and two house the 64 analog outputs. The output signals maintain a minimum -40dB isolation from all other outputs.

Features

  • Operational frequency range is DC to 6MHz.
  • Input and output voltage range is ±10V
  • Unit is a standard VME - 6U card.
  • Set-up is done using the VME bus in eight bit mode.
  • Any one of 64 analog inputs can be directed to any one of 64 outputs.
  • Low crosstalk between individual channels.
  • Input isolation provides power fault protection.

Applications

Typical applications for the AMS001 are in the areas of Telemetry, PBX Systems, Instrumentation, and Analog Networks.
