The Model 545 Block Error Detector provides NASCOM encoding, decoding and error detection on up to 6 channels simultaneously at full duplex rates up to 15 Mbps. It provides operation similar to GDP's highly successful Model 544 BED with the addition of local front panel control and display of block performance values.

It also provides RS232 remote control and status for computer-automated applications. At the front panel display or via remote status messages, the user is presented with the accumulated encoder blocks sent, decoder blocks received, and decoder blocks in error. Count values range from 0 to 4,294,967,296 blocks which allow short or long term performance testing. Maintainability is enhanced by the installation of an integrated test section for fault isolation, and by incorporating all circuitry for each channel onto a single printed circuit card for rapid repair.
