The DFS002 Direct Frequency Synthesizer is a 6U VME compatible module designed to provide a versatile and highly accurate digital, square wave clock source. Clock rates from 100 bps to 20 Mbps may be generated. Two independent synthesizers are provided which are phase locked when programmed for submultiple rates. Signal output levels include TTL, RS-422 and RS-232.

Applications

This module ideal for applications such as data acquisition sampling, PCM simulator serialization rates, telecommunications timing, and general laboratory use.

The 1x/2x mode is useful in Viterbi encoding systems as it provides both the data and symbol clocks using just one channel. In instances where 1/3 rate encoders are used, the two channels of the DFS002 are utilized.

Insertion of submultiple packets in communications systems is conveniently accomplished since the two frequency synthesizers maintain phase lock when programmed to exact submultiple rates.
