Model DBS001 PSK Demodulator and Bit Synchronizer on VME Card

Specification SheetThe GDP Space Systems DBS001 performs baseband data and clock recovery on a BPSK modulated Subcarrier. The demodulator performs coherent demodulation of a 16 kHz sine wave Subcarrier which has been Binary Phase Shift Keyed (BPSK) modulated by 2 kbps data. The 2 kHz bit rate clock is then recovered from the baseband data. The DBS001 accepts a modulated Subcarrier from one of two selectable inputs. The recovered data can be processed by a code converter that decodes NRZ-L/M/S encoded data. The decoded data can then be encoded to NRZ-L/M/S before being output. The (encoded) Bit Synchronizer data and clock are available simultaneously as TTL and RS422 outputs. Control of the output data and clock polarity is provided.

All functions are controlled over the VME bus. Demodulator input signal LOSS status and Demodulator/Bit Synchronizer LOCK status are indicated on front panel LEDs. Status is also available on the VME bus.

DBS001 is a 6Ux160mm VME compatible circuit board which occupies a single VME card slot. The card requires +5Vdc, +12Vdc and -12Vdc power for operation.

The DBS001 is included in the GDP Space Systems Model 780M PSK Subcarrier Modem. A BPSK modulator, demodulator and bit synchronizer are contained in a 3.5 inch high rack-mount chassis.
