The Model 731 NASCOM Block Multiplexer is designed to accept multiple blocked NASCOM data streams for combination into a single composite output. A demultiplexer is not required to recover the input data streams. The multiplexed data stream is simply a combination of the input information. No overhead is added since each input block inherently contains its own identification. Normal data recovery techniques used for a single NASCOM stream still apply to the combined multiplex.
The basic unit accepts up to four (4) input streams. An option to include an additional three (3) inputs is available allowing accommodation of seven (7) inputs in a single chassis. The output data is clocked at a rate determined by the user supplied send data timing signal.
Status indicators are provided on the front panel of the unit. Each input channel is monitored and a lamp is provided to indicate activity. Should the input rate exceed the carry-away rate, a lamp is provided to indicate block overflow. Output activity is indicated by a lamp as well.
