The GDP Model 712 NASCOM Blocker/Deblocker unit provides a variety of commonly used NASCOM functions such as blocking, deblocking, data quality monitoring, data generation, and block analysis in a single 3 ½” high unit. A modular architecture allows the user to meet custom system requirements by configuring a Model 712 for specific application.
Simplex operation is supported in the basic unit with no additional options required. Full duplex or dual channel operation is provided by adding a second channel card (option OP712-10). Rate buffering is provided in the single or dual channel mode by the addition of an embedded dual DDS-based synthesizer (OP712-20). The DDS is also used as the clock output when the Model 712 is simulating NASCOM or Telemetry data.
Each channel interface is a GDP-designed NBD001 NASCOM blocker/deblocker module. The NBD001 is an MC68030-based VME module that provides the ability to block, deblock, or simulate NASCOM/TM data. It’s flexibility and programmability is demonstrated by the Deep Space Network (DSN) Protocol Processing option (OP712-30). By simply modifying its internal firmware the Model 712 can be easily tailored to support new applications quickly and cost-effectively.
Local front panel control is provided for quick setup of the Model 712 through a menu-driven interface. Non-volatile storage of NASCOM 4800 bit block setups is provided for rapid reconfiguration. Additionally, BDFSET remote control software is provided with each Model 712.
BDFSET provides the user with a menu driven operational interface on any AT compatible computer. It enhances the Model 712 by allowing the user to access all operational features of the unit. The user can store literally thousands of commonly used setups on disk for later retrieval and operation.
